Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 June 2026
This policy explains what information Eat What Food? (“we”, “us”, the “Service”, available at eatwhatfood.com) handles when you use it, why, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.
Information we handle
- Location. When you tap the button and allow location access, your device shares your approximate latitude and longitude with your browser, which we pass to our restaurant-data providers to find nearby places. If you instead type a city or postcode, that text is sent to a geocoding provider to convert it into coordinates. We do not save your location on our servers, and we do not build a history of where you’ve been.
- No account data. We do not ask for, collect, or store your name, email, phone number, or any login credentials. There is nothing to sign up for.
- Technical data. Like virtually all websites, our hosting provider may automatically process standard request information (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver the site securely and prevent abuse. We do not use this to identify you personally.
How we use it
Location and the text you type are used for a single purpose: to find and show you nearby restaurants. Technical data is used only to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Service. We do not sell your personal information.
Third-party services
To work, the Service relies on these third parties, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Google Maps Platform (Places API). Your coordinates are sent to Google to retrieve nearby restaurants, their details, and photos. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim & Overpass). When you type a location, or as a fallback data source, your typed text or coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap services to find matching places. See the OSM Foundation Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes requests to deliver and protect it. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
Advertising
We may use Google AdSense to display advertising on this site. When ads are served:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
- For more on how Google uses data when you use our partners’ sites or apps, see Google’s “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services”.
Where required by law (for example for visitors in the EEA and UK), advertising and non-essential cookies are only set after you provide consent through our consent banner.
Cookies
The Service does not set its own tracking cookies. The only cookies that may be placed are those described in the Advertising section above, once ad serving is active. Your browser settings let you block or delete cookies at any time.
Your choices and rights
Because we don’t hold accounts or store your location, there is generally no personal profile for us to access or delete. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, and to object to certain processing. To make a request or ask a question, contact us using the details below and we’ll respond as required by applicable law.
Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service evolves — for example, when we enable advertising. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised policy.
